Today’s trends are seeing men pay more attention to grooming and personal body care, and many men are looking to body care items made specifically for them to achieve the best results possible. Check out the facts surrounding this buying behavior:

  • Beauty and personal care product lines targeted to men have increased worldwide by more than 70% since 2007, with sales expected to rise another 16% in the U.S. by 2017. In addition, the market is becoming increasingly segmented to satisfy demand as men’s personal care lines continue to grow (Allured Business Media).
  • In the U.S., 59% of men feel personal care products boost their self-esteem. In fact, 37% use a daily facial cleanser, 22% use exfoliating scrubs, 17% use anti-aging products, and 12% use eye cream or gels. This is fitting considering 28% say they are concerned about dry skin and visible signs of aging (Allured Business Media).
  • The men’s personal care industry generates more than $4 billion in annual revenue, and men ages 15-34 purchase the widest range of body care products and are the most devoted to their grooming (Antoinette Alexander, as cited in SBDCNet).
  • Mainstream brands have matched this market growth by launching a men’s line, supplying many products that have traditionally been offered only to women: Dove (Men+Care), Clairol (Natural Instincts), L’Oreal Paris (Men’s Expert), and Beiersdorf (Nivea Men).
